On October 12, the No. 2 10,800-car LNG dual-fuel pure car and truck carrier (PCTC) “GLOVIS LEGEND,” built by CSSC Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI) together with China Shipbuilding Trading Co., Ltd. (CSTC) for South Korea’s HMM, was named and delivered in Nansha, Guangzhou, nearly nine months ahead of the contractual delivery date.

Designed by CSSC Shanghai Merchant Ship Design & Research Institute (SDARI), the “GLOVIS LEGEND” has an overall length of 230 meters, a beam of 40 meters, a design draft of 10.5 meters, and a design speed of 19 knots. It adopts an LNG/fuel oil dual-fuel propulsion system and meets the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Tier III emission standards. It is green and environmentally friendly, energy-efficient, safe, and reliable. The vessel is designed with 14 vehicle deck levels and can flexibly carry multiple vehicle types, including electric vehicles, hydrogen-powered vehicles, and heavy trucks, with a maximum vehicle capacity of 10,800 units per ship. Calculated at 5 meters per standard car, the vehicles it carries would stretch more than 50 kilometers bumper to bumper, making it a “giant on the sea.” After delivery, it will be operated by Hyundai Glovis Co., Ltd.

Since the cooperation began in 2022, GSI has delivered four car carriers to HMM, with the other three being “Glovis Nova,” “Glovis Lighthouse,” and “Glovis Leader.” A total of 13 car carriers are serving GLOVIS’s operations. Among them, “Glovis Leader,” the world’s first 10,800-car LNG dual-fuel PCTC delivered at the end of April this year, ushered in the global era of 10,000-vehicle-class maritime car transport. With the delivery of the second 10,800-car LNG dual-fuel PCTC under the project, this marks another fruitful outcome of the tripartite cooperation between GSI, HMM, and GLOVIS.
