On September 1, CSSC (Hong Kong) Shipping Company Limited announced that it had entered into 10 shipbuilding contracts with Chengxi Shipyard Co., Ltd. and CSTC to construct 10 bulk carriers of 80,000 deadweight tonnes each, as part of its fleet expansion initiative. The vessels are scheduled for delivery between September 30, 2029, and the end of 2030.

According to the announcement, the unit price for each vessel is RMB 323.5 million, bringing the total contract value to RMB 3.235 billion. CSSC Shipping plans to finance the project through a combination of its own funds and bank loans. The hull numbers are CX9809A, CX9810A, CX9811A, CX9812A, CX9813A, CX9814A, CX9815A, CX9816A, CX9817A, and CX9818A.

Under the agreement, Chengxi Shipyard will collaborate with CSSC Guangxi to carry out the construction and delivery of the 10 new vessels. Chengxi Shipyard, as the contracting party, will rely on the CSSC Guangxi Qinzhou Shipyard, which is under its trusteeship, as the actual construction base. The 80,000-tonne grain carriers to be built represent not only a key focus of the project but also a significant milestone for CSSC Guangxi in the field of large-scale ship construction.

CSSC Shipping stated that this ship acquisition is an important step in its ongoing efforts to modernise its fleet. The new vessels feature customised energy-saving designs, offering substantial improvements in energy efficiency and operational performance compared to the group's existing bulk carriers, while also complying with the latest international environmental standards and industry technical regulations. Analysts noted that this move is expected to help the group optimise its asset structure and strengthen its long-term competitiveness in the shipping leasing market.

The transaction is subject to approval by independent shareholders.
