Cyprus comes to China in search of shipping business.
According to Cypriot media reports, Cyprus is seeking to expand its shipping business in China.
Ahead of the North Bund International Shipping Forum, Cyprus Shipping Deputy Minister Marina Hadjimanolis recently promoted the country’s ship registry in Shanghai, whose registered fleet has reached its highest level in 25 years.

During meetings with representatives of Dalian Xinfeng Shipping and Fortuna Shipbrokers Inc., Hadjimanolis introduced the competitive advantages of the Cyprus flag, discussed opportunities for shipowner registration, and presented Cyprus as a partner for Chinese shipping companies.
Before visiting China, Hadjimanolis visited Japan, where she met with representatives of Shoei Kisen Kaisha, Nihon Shipyard, NYK Line, Itochu Corporation and SSY Projects to discuss expanding cooperation in the maritime sector. She will later travel to South Korea to attend Korea Maritime Week and the parallel events for World Maritime Day 2026.
The Office of the Shipping Deputy Minister of Cyprus said that these visits are part of its strategy to expand the presence of Cypriot shipping in the Japanese, Chinese and South Korean markets, develop new partnerships and business opportunities, and enhance the competitiveness of the Cyprus Ship Registry and Cyprus’s position as an international shipping center.
