Recently, the international port code "CNLYI" for Linyi was officially released globally upon approval by the United Nations Centre for Trade Facilitation and Electronic Business (UN/CEFACT). In the code, "CN" stands for China, and "LYI" stands for Linyi. The approval of this code marks that Linyi has officially obtained its "international identity" for participation in global trade, and is now internationally recognised as a "port of departure" and "port of destination" with acknowledged status.

The UN/LOCODE (United Nations Code for Trade and Transport Locations) is a standard code system specially established by UN/CEFACT to meet the requirements of international multimodal transport and "door‑to‑door" delivery in international trade. It comprises elements such as the code, location name, romanisation, subdivision, function, and remarks, providing a unique international location code for trade and transport operations. The functional classification covers eight port/transport functions: maritime transport, rail transport, road transport, air transport, international mail, multimodal transport, fixed transport facilities, and border crossing.

With the international port code, Linyi can complete local customs clearance "at its doorstep" and connect directly to global markets, thus becoming a "port of departure" and "port of destination" for international transport. This will greatly facilitate cargo movement and achieve a qualitative leap in trade facilitation. At the same time, it will help develop international inland port container yards and international shipping service centres, build the "Linyi Port Area" of Shandong Port, and promote models such as full through bills of lading for international multimodal transport. These efforts will further reduce logistics costs, improve efficiency and quality, and support the high‑quality development of Linyi's international trade.
