Indonesia's National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) said the fire occurred at around 19:00 local time on October 16 and broke out in the ship's engine room. At the time, the vessel was sailing from Muara Jawa in East Kalimantan to Nagan Raya in Aceh Province. The exact cause of the fire and the firefighting process remain subject to further official investigation and confirmation.

During the evacuation, 13 crew members boarded life rafts after the fire broke out and were later rescued by the passing vessel "Seroja XX"; the other 13 remained near the "KM Prima Sentosa." Basarnas explained that these crew members chose to stay in place out of concern that they might be swept away by currents if they moved away from the vessel.

All 26 crew members have now safely arrived at Pulau Baai Port, completed registration and undergone medical checks. They include 23 Indonesian crew members and 3 foreign crew members. The follow-up handling of the vessel and the investigation into the cause of the fire will be continued by the relevant Indonesian authorities.
